Verbs

Verbs: One will usually find three types of verbs.

1. Action Verbs--action verbs show the the subject engaged in an action.

Example: John smelled victory, and he skate toward the finish line.

2. Linking Verbs--this type verb connects the subject to an idea about the subject.

"to be" verbs.

--am, are, is(present tense verbs)-- --was, were(past tense verbs)--

Am, is, are, was, were are: infinitive verbs. Infinitive verbs are preceded by "to," as in "to be."

Example: Sally is great.

3.Helping Verbs--(alson known as auxilliary verbs).

Helping verbs are always followed by--an acion or linking verb.

Can, could, do, did, has, had, have, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would

Example: Jackie should do her hair before the ball.
